The October 13, 2013 Modern Art & Design Auction featured works from the Estate of Ruth and Dalzell Hatfield, and included over 40 works that came directly from the Hatfield Estate, in addition to a selection of important fine art and design, including an impressive group of Natzler ceramics from the Leopold and Patricia Hirschfeldt Collection.
Fine Art highlights included paintings by Larry Rivers, Frederick Hammersley, Karl Benjamin, and Ed Ruscha, as well as works by Andy Warhol, De Wain Valentine, Ed Kienholz, Chris Burden, and Dennis Hopper. Additionally, LAMA offered a special selection of Latin American Modern works, including a grouping of fine art sold by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to benefit future acquisitions.
Design highlights included period-focused designs by Florence Knoll, which came from the original home of a Los Angeles architect who worked within the International Style, as well as, two Arabia wall panels, and two Paolo Venini sculptures from 1959. The sale also included offerings by Hans Wegner, Alvar Aalto, as well as a large living room collection by Frank Lloyd Wright designed for Heritage Henredon, featuring a sectional sofa and several tables.
